How do I upskill?

If you are missing maths prerequisites required to for surveying qualifications then talk to the providers about how to catch up on maths.
There is a clear pathway from the National Certificate in Surveying NCS (Assistants) onto the NDS.

NDS graduates with good pass grades and work experience can gain up to 2 years exemption from the BSurv degree at Otago University. (see the Surveying Career Roadmap on this page)

Becoming a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor

Successful candidates for Membership of NZIS, with at least 12 months' land title work experience, can apply to the Cadastral Surveyors Licensing Board CSLB for a Licence. Intending Licensed Cadastral Surveyors must also pass a law examination and attend the Admissions Panel interviews.  Once Licensed by the CSLB, a BSurv graduate can sign land title surveys.
If you're training to become a licensed Cadastral Surveyor, then you might find the NZIS Guideline for Professional Training (attached below) useful.  This document is intended to assist employees who wish become licensed and their employers.
