Brief History NZ OUTLINE

The concept for the Young Surveyors Group was raised at the 2005 NZIS conference in Dunedin.  Between November 2005 and October 2006 the group was set up, and a constitution drafted. Since then the YSG has grown and supported its members by meeting the aims below.

The aims of the group are:

  • The organisation of professional and social networking events for YSG members;
  • To represent of the members of YSG within the NZIS;
  • To provide a forum for discussing professional and technical matters of particular interest to YSG members;
  • To establish a support network for NZIS members
  • Working towards MNZIS and/or Registered Professional Surveyor (RPSurv)status; 
  • To aid in the establishment and running of study groups for Acts and Regulations examination candidates;
  • To increase the membership of the NZIS.

    We welcome survey students to join the Institute as Student Members and become part of the Young Surveyors Group.

        YOUNG SURVEYORS GROUP IMPORTANT MESSAGES

        1.     YSG VACANT POSITIONS

        As you may be aware Andrew Perry and Jodi Rook are stepping aside from their positions on the executive after a long period of dedication to YSG.  This means we are looking for new people to step into the roles of Social Representative and Education Representative.  A new position of Webmaster has also been created on the Executive.  Below is a quick summary of what each position entails:

        Social Representative – Main tasks will include liaising with Branch Representatives and overseeing the allocation of YSG funds to branches.

        Education Representative – The Education Reps main role is to support young surveyors in their professional development. This position requires a competent, organised and enthusiastic person to convey information to all YSG members on important dates, deadlines and requirements for the Cadastral Law Exam and Professional Interviews. The Education Rep. is also responsible for organising study sessions for the Cadastral Law Exam, carrying out post exam satisfaction surveys, maintaining contact with the Education Committee of NZIS and providing a voice for the YSG on all education matters within the institute.

        Webmaster - The job of webmaster will be to maintain the YSG section of the NZIS website.

        If you would like to nominate someone for one or more of the three positions outlined above, please send their name and a contact email and/ or number and a couple of sentences about why you think they would suit the position to jackie@mgsl.co.nz .  Self-nominations will also be accepted.

         

        2.     YSG AGM

        The Young Surveyors Group (YSG) would like to invite all members and interested parties to attend their AGM.

        Date:     Thursday 24th November 2011

        Time:     At the conclusion of the NZIS AGM (approx 3:15pm)
